Curriculum Overview for the School Year
Language Arts: Review of vowels, consonants, blends, one–
and two Vowel words, consonant blends. Recognition and
use of all phonic special sounds in reading. Spelling rules and
oral reading. Cursive Writing. Spelling
and poetry with weekly test and reinforcement activities.
8 poems committed to memory. Capitalization and punctuation;
as well as using suffixes, prefixes, syllables, compound words,
rhyming words, opposites and same meaning words and contractions.
Creative writing and short stories.
History and Geography: "This is My America" studies
America’s flag, freedoms and symbols. "This
is My World" studies various countries.
Science: Health and Human Biology, Energy, Animals, Plants,
and seasons.
Health Safety and Manners: Food, exercise, rest, care of
body, clothes and home. Safety at home, on streets, playgrounds
and in water. Using manners at home, school, church
and in public.
Arithmetic: number recognition & counting, greatest to
least, number sequences, ordinal numbers, addition facts through
13 and two-digit subtraction, story problems, counting money, telling
time, odd & even numbers, English and metric measures, place
value, unit fractions, using a ruler, multiple combinations, concept
of multiplication, calendars, reading pictographs and bar graphs,
developing listening skills and Roman numerals.
Bible: Various lessons such as Salvation Series, Genesis
and the Life of Christ. Lessons include memory verses and songs.
Students will also participate in missions giving through
the Boys and Girls Missionary Challange/BGMC. |
