Curriculum Overview for the School Year
Language Arts: Phonics & Reading: Review of phonics rules,
oral reading, reading comprehension. Cursive Writing:
Review of cursive writing formation 3/4 space high, creative writing.
Spelling & Poetry: Weekly phonics-based word list
with vocabulary, sentence dictation using spelling words, reinforcement
activities, nine poems committed to memory. Language:
complete sentences, punctuation and capitalizations rules, creative
writing, friendly letters. Grammar: Recognition of simple
nouns, subjects, verbs, adjectives, word usage, forming plurals
and common contractions, recognition of antonyms, homonyms, synonyms,
and dictionary skills.
History and Geography: Continents and oceans of the world,
study of world geography, study of our American heritage through
the lives of great people.
Science: Plants, Animals, Health & Human Biology, Earth
and Space, and Conservation.
Health Safety and Manners: Posture, Nutrition, Exercise,
Rest, Cleanliness, Diseases; Safety at home, on Streets, Around
Water, During Bad Weather and First Aid; Manners.
Arithmetic: Place value, checking addition & subtraction
problems, multiplication with carrying, how to show a multiplication
fact six ways, division tables 1-12, terminology for four processes,
measures, time, roman numerals, using a ruler, solving story problems,
number sentences, > & <, dealing with money, averaging
numbers, reading a thermometer, geometric shapes, and finding the
unknown number in an equation.
Bible: Various lessons such as Salvation Series, Parables,
Samuel, David, Elijah, Elisha, Daniel, Ezra/Nehemiah and Esther.
Students will also participate in missions giving through
the Boys and Girls Missionary Challange/BGMC. |
